for a number of years ive been happy to use truth drums and I love my set. the tone and configuration and the way it feels to play it. its all awesome. Last year I bought an sjc snare and since then ive had such a balance between these two competing custom drum companies.
Truth drums- I bought my truth set because it had the perfect configuration that I was used to. the 24,16,18,13. the bass drum sounds like a quick 808 every single time I hit it with the emad batter and the remo fyberskyn resonant. the depth gives it the boom it needs, the height gives it the low, low tone thats awesome. the huge toms give it the deep tones that are perfect for my preference. The wood, the quality and everything about it is perfect, but I mainly got this kit because it reminded me of all of my influences. aaron gillespie, zac farro, dan williams, alex shellnut, all of the awesome drummers.
sjc- the snare I got replaced the starclassic snare i used to have since I really started playing. Its so awesome, its pure maple, so it has the perfect volume and tone for my style of playing. They used like 200 layers of packaging so that it wouldnt get damaged when they shipped it, they have the most awesome customer service. Its the perfect snare drum.
recently, I priced the next set that I want to purchase with both companies. I emailed them the same specs and sizes and color and hardware preferences. I made sure every detail was the same. the price I got from sjc was 2,000. the price from truth was 3,000. I don’t understand this really because they both use keller shells and the same hardware, but now its starting to make sense why all of these drummers that have influenced me in the past are switching to sjc. This new set is going to be awesome when I get the money I need for it and I’m excited. This is going to bring out the sound in the new drummer and person ive evolved to be.
